Lunar New Year

 Many people across the globe celebrated the Lunar New Year on Sunday, January 29, 2006. The Lunar New Year begins on the first new moon of the year and concludes on the full moon 15 days later.

Most people in Eastern Asia and Southeast Asia take part in Lunar New Year festivities. Firecrackers and an incredible assortment of food are usually part of the new year tradition. With this year being the year of the dog, pictures of the family pooch and drawings of dogs were commonly seen as part of the new year's decorations.

This year Beijing reportedly spent 1 billion yuan ($165 million) on fireworks and firecrackers. The Chinese believe the explosive noise will scare away evil spirits and help usher along good fortune.To find out more go to www.kidsnewroom.org

Creepy Crawly Discovery

   

  Scientists found 27 entirely new species which took them 3 years to find them.They found them in 30 diffrent caves.Scientists also found a fluorescent orange spider,a traslucent bug whose organs are visible and a creature similar to a scorpion without a tail.They found all of this discoverys in the tallest mountain in the continental U.S.If you want to find out more go to www.kidsnewsroom.org
